Product

Are all your green tea powder products organic?

Yes! Yu Tea Co is certified organic as a company. All of our products are grown organically, tested, and certified organic.

Where does your green tea come from?

All of our green tea's come from organic farms in Japan where we have personally visited and inspected.

Do you test for chemicals, metals, and radiation?

Absolutely! At Yu, ensuring the purity and safety of our teas is a priority. While all our products are derived from certified organic or organically grown ingredients, we take additional steps to ensure they meet our "Pure Wellness" standards. Our green teas are meticulously tested to ensure they are free from pesticides, radiation, and heavy metals. When you choose Yu Tea, you're choosing a beverage that is as clean and wholesome as it is delightful. Embrace the peace of mind that comes with every sip of our rigorously tested, health-enhancing teas.

How much caffeine is in Yu's Sencha & Matcha Green Tea Powder?

The caffeine content in our teas per 8oz serving is outlined as follows:

  • Yu Sencha, Regular: ~15 mg
  • Yu Sencha, Decaf: less than ~4 mg
  • Yu Matcha: ~35-70 mg
  • Yu Matcha, Decaf: less than ~6 mg
  • Yu Hojicha: ~17 mg
  • Yu Genmaciha: ~5 mg

For a point of reference, a standard cup of coffee typically contains 95-240 mg of caffeine per serving and 1 oz of dark chocolate contains 12-20 mg of caffeine.

Green Tea, Oolong Tea, and Black Tea all originate from the leaves of the Camellia Sinensis plant, which naturally contains caffeine. The amount of caffeine in Green Tea, including matcha, as well as Oolong Tea and Black Tea, is influenced by the growing conditions and the treatments applied post-harvest. The unique flavor and nutritional profile of each type of tea are crafted through the fermentation (oxidation) and finishing processes. Oxidation leads to a reduction in the levels of Catechins and EGCG in tea leaves. As a result, the more oxidized Oolong Tea and Black Tea have lower concentrations of Catechins and EGCG compared to Green Tea, which undergoes no oxidation. Our Yu teas are a testament to the rich, unoxidized goodness of authentic green tea, offering a gentle caffeine kick alongside a bounty of antioxidants.

What is your decaffeination process?

At Yu, we employ a dual decaffeination process that starts with the Natural Water Method. This method utilizes water to gently extract most of the caffeine while retaining the valuable EGCG antioxidants within the green tea leaves.

To ensure an ultra-low caffeine content while retaining the maximum nutritional value, we further employ a CO2 Process. This two-step decaffeination process is our pledge to purity, ensuring the removal of a significant amount of caffeine while keeping the healthful antioxidants and benefits in tact.

How beneficial is decaffeinated green tea?

While conventional decaffeination methods may strip green tea of its water-soluble antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals along with caffeine, rendering just colored water with scant nutrition, our Yu Decaffeinated Green Tea Powder defies this norm. Our meticulous dual method ensures that 95% of the precious Catechins remain intact even after the decaffeination process, making our Yu Decaf Sencha & Decaf Matcha Powders a remarkable choice for those sensitive to caffeine.

What are the health benefits of green tea?

Embarking on a healthful journey with green tea is akin to unlocking a treasure trove of wellness. At the heart of green tea's illustrious health benefits are three paramount nutrients:

CATECHINS
These antioxidants stand as nature's potent shield, showcasing an antioxidative power 25 to 100 times stronger than Vitamins C & E, a promise of protection against oxidative stress.

EGCG
Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG) is the crown jewel among Catechin subclasses, holding the key to green tea's extensive health benefits, weaving a tapestry of wellness with every sip.

L-THEANINE
An exclusive gift from green tea leaves, L-Theanine is a natural relaxant that orchestrates a symphony of calm and mental clarity by stimulating alpha wave production in the brain.

The myriad benefits of green tea extend across a spectrum of health concerns:

  • Cancer Prevention: A vigilant guard against cellular anomalies.
  • Immune Fortification: Strengthening your body's natural defense mechanism.
  • Cholesterol Management: Promoting a balanced lipid profile.
  • Oral Health Enhancement: Celebrating a smile that mirrors your inner health.
  • Cognitive Health & Mood Elevation: Nurturing a serene mind amidst life's tumult.
  • Weight Management: Supporting your journey towards a balanced self.
  • Bone Health: Laying the foundation of enduring strength.
  • Hormonal Equilibrium: Harmonizing the body's rhythmic dance.
  • Blood Pressure Regulation: Maintaining a calm ebb and flow.
  • Type II Diabetes Prevention: Aiding in the management of blood sugar levels.

How much green tea should I drink? How much is too much?

Our green tea powder, rich in EGCG antioxidants, enhances your wellness journey with just one cup a day, though you may enjoy up to 7 cups to stay replenished with antioxidants throughout the day.

Regarding caffeine, it's naturally present in green tea. Guidelines suggest limiting caffeine intake to 500mg per day for adults, and 100mg for adolescents. In terms of green tea, this translates to over 50 cups of our regular green tea or about 10 cups of our Matcha.

While EGCG is beneficial, extremely high doses, often found in extracts, can be toxic. It's advisable to enjoy green tea in its natural form and consult with a healthcare provider if you plan on significantly increasing your green tea consumption.

Is green tea suitable for children?

Absolutely! Green tea can be a healthy addition to a child's diet, offering numerous benefits. However, due to its natural caffeine content, it's advisable to monitor the amount your child consumes. The presence of L-theanine in green tea can help balance caffeine's effects, providing a calm energy without the typical jittery feeling or later crash often associated with other caffeinated beverages. As with any dietary change, it's a good practice to consult with a pediatrician to ensure green tea is a fitting choice for your child.

How do I store my green tea properly?

To retain the freshness and potency of your Yu Matcha and Green Tea, it's essential to store them away from air, sunlight, moisture, and heat. Follow these steps for optimal preservation:

  1. Resealable Bags: Our teas come in resealable pouches or individual sticks for extra convenience and freshness. For pouches, after each use, gently squeeze out the air and reseal the bag securely.
  2. Alternative Containers: If desired, transfer your tea to a non-clear, air-tight container with a snug-sealing lid to keep it fresh.
  3. Temperature Control: In warmer climates (average temperatures around 70°F), store in the fridge if posssible. Ensure to bring it to room temperature an hour before use to prevent condensation.

By adhering to these storage guidelines, you'll ensure that every cup of Yu tea you brew is as vibrant and beneficial as the last, celebrating the authentic essence of our meticulously crafted teas.

Do you have a coffee alternative?

Absolutely! Our Ceremonial Grade Matcha serves as an excellent coffee alternative, offering a balanced energy boost without the jitteriness often associated with coffee. Here's why switching to Matcha could be beneficial:

  1. Smooth Energy: Matcha provides a calm, sustained energy boost thanks to its caffeine content balanced with L-theanine, an amino acid that promotes relaxation without drowsiness. This contrasts with the quick, sometimes jittery energy spike followed by a crash that coffee can cause.
  2. Rich in Antioxidants: Matcha is renowned for its high antioxidant content, particularly catechins like EGCG, which help combat oxidative stress and promote overall wellness.
  3. Enhanced Mental Clarity: The L-theanine in Matcha promotes the production of alpha waves in the brain, enhancing focus, mental clarity, and a calm, alert state, making it a superior choice for sustained mental activity.
  4. Alkalizing, not Acidic: Unlike coffee, which is acidic and can be hard on the stomach, Matcha is alkalizing and tends to be gentler on the digestive system.
  5. Detoxifying Benefits: The vibrant green color of Matcha is a testament to its chlorophyll content, which helps in the body’s detoxification process.
  6. No Need for Additives: Matcha's naturally creamy texture and slightly sweet taste often require less sweetening or creamer compared to coffee, making it a healthier choice.

Embracing a cup of Matcha instead of your usual coffee not only nourishes your body with antioxidants but also provides a serene yet focused energy, making your transition from coffee to Matcha a choice of elevated wellness. Explore our variety of Matcha options and embark on a journey of enhanced well-being and refined taste.
