Methods to Create Your Perfect Iced Green Tea

Cold-Brew Perfection

Certain teas lend themselves exquisitely to the cold-brew method. Our Sencha, Matcha, and Hojicha variations are brilliant for capturing those crisp and smooth notes.

Instructions:

  1. Combine: 1 heaping teaspoon of your chosen Yu green tea for every 8 oz of room-temperature water. Whether you choose to use a disposable tea bag or loose leaves is up to you. Tip: Opt for a carafe with a built-in filter. It lets the tea leaves expand naturally, freeing you from the need to strain later.
  2. Patiently Chill: Cover and refrigerate. Start tasting after 30 minutes to find your perfect brew strength. Tip: Don’t rush it. Green tea rewards patience with flavor profiles that are rich but never bitter.
  3. Strain & Serve: Strain the leaves and transfer to a glass. Serve over ice, if desired. Tip: Resist the urge to squeeze out the last drops from the tea leaves; this only adds impurities, robbing your tea of its natural grace.

Hot-Steeped & Flash-Cooled

For a different taste profile, you can brew your tea hot before cooling it rapidly with ice. This works marvelously with our Hojicha and Genmaicha teas.

  • Double Up: Use twice the amount of tea as you would for a hot cup.
  • Steep & Strain: Follow package instructions for steeping time, and then strain over a pitcher filled with ice.

Tip: The quick cooling locks in flavors and keeps bitterness at bay.

Shake or Stir: The Powdered Brilliance

Whether you're using our Matcha or Sencha powder, this method offers a quick, on-the-go solution.

Combine: Slightly more powder than you'd use for a hot cup—cold suppresses flavor. Tip: Use a water bottle or a shaker to shake it up. Ensure it’s not filled to the brim to let the powder and water mix freely.
