Homemade Matcha Wasabi Green Peas Recipe
We love heat in food. We love matcha wasabi green peas – these little hot crunchy cuties are very popular. However, sometimes the wasabi is a bit too much for me. I also don’t like the fact that these peas use added starch and added sugar. So I made them at home with no additional starch and sugar. They are so easy to make, healthy, and yummy!
A Snack for Any Occasion
They can be added to your favorite trail mix or mixed with Crunchy Chickpeas for your happy hour. If you have olive oil, green peas, and matcha tea (or sencha powder) in your pantry or freezer, all you need is ‘wasabi’, which you can find in the Asian food section of most grocery stores. The "Wasabi" flavor of these peas is very present - the heat is just right. You don’t have to fear the batch you just grabbed might have a "heat bomb".
The secret is the addition of "matcha" or green tea powder. Try and experience the magic of Umami (ooh-mah-me), the so-called ‘fifth taste.’ Umami is a ‘meaty,’ savory flavor, and adds depth, fullness, and an extra sense of satisfaction to foods. Green tea is a great source of Umami and is easy to mix into all kinds of foods.
